The Benefits

Soft Water Effects… keeping your skin happy and healthy.

Do your showers or baths make you feel like a million dollars? Is your skin silky smooth or does it feel as if it is coated in minerals from the water? If you are feeling dry and itchy after bathing and need to use a moisturiser, then your water could be the problem.

Most people are unaware of the effect water can have on their skin, especially if it’s hard and contains minerals such as magnesium and calcium. You water absorbs these minerals through contact with soil and rocks during the water cycle. These minerals make it harder for soapy suds to form and will often leave behind a scummy residue.

Hard water leaves a residue behind which clings to your skin and can clog your pores. While this can make people feel itchy, it can also cause skin flare-ups and even acne or eczema. When the pores are clogged, the natural oils in your skin get trapped and build up, which causes spots and pimples.

The minerals in hard water can strip moisture from your skin, if they weren’t present then the natural oils in your body could keep your skin soft and full of moisture without the need for a moisturiser. It is believed that the impurities in hard water can speed up skin ageing. These impurities can form free radicals that damage skin cells and contribute to wrinkles. Free radicals cause the breakdown of collagen, which helps to keep your skin looking healthy and firm.

If you’re fed up of the effects hard water is having on your skin, then having a water softener installed in your home is the solution. Soft water will leave your skin feeling silky smooth, soft and clean, whilst also helping to prevent skin irritations and improve skin conditions. With soft water you won’t have to use as much product to get a soapy lather, meaning your favourite shampoo and shower gel will last much longer and save you money in the long run! The product that you use on yourself will work more efficiently and there won’t be any scum residue left on your skin when the water washes it away. When people wash with their water softener for the first time, they often say their skin feels slippery, this sensation happens when there is no scum attached to your body, allowing your natural oils to moisten the skin.

study was done in the UK that found children who lived in hard water areas were more likely to develop eczema. While hard water doesn’t cause skin conditions, there is a lot of evidence to show that it can aggravate things further. Softened water doesn’t cure conditions like eczema, but it can be a step towards feeling better in your skin and being kinder to it. With less irritation due to the minerals in hard water, you won’t feel the need to itch your skin as much as before.
